il racconto inizia nell’isola
di Manhattan, da dove Ismaele parte per raggiungere il porto di New Bedford.
Qui si imbarcherà sul Pequod con cui attraverserà l'Oceano
Atlantico, facendo tappa in Africa occidentale e in Sud America. Poi doppiando il
Capo di Buona Speranza navigherà in direzione nord-est nell'Oceano Indiano e,
passando tra Java e Sumatra, arriverà alle Filippine nell'Oceano Pacifico.
Infine la baleniera scenderà verso sud per raggiungere il suo destino da
qualche parte al largo della Nuova Guinea.
Geography of the novel:
the novel begins in Manhattan island, from where Ishmael leaves to reach the
port of New Bedford. Here he will embark on the Pequod, which he will cross the
Atlantic Ocean with, stopping over in West Africa and in South America. Then,
rounding the Cape of Good Hope, he will sail North-East Indian Ocean, passing
between Java and Sumatra, he will arrive in the Philippines in the Pacific
Ocean. Finally, the Whaler will drop southward to reach its destiny somewhere
off the coast of New Guinea.
